The next
day, sleeping cozily in his bed, Mikiya rolled over and turned away from his
window, he was not ready to face the day and its blinding light yet. It was
late in the morning, but all the practices from the night before had made him
sore. His big, puffy comforter and fluffy pillow top mattress made his tiny
body almost disappear in its softness. The house was quiet; the dog was
sleeping as well as the other two in the household. Or so he thought. The door
to Mikiya's room creaked open, and a young man snuck in quietly, creeping over
to Mikiya's bed. The young man crawled into Mikiya's bed, lying atop his
blanket, leaning in inches from Mikiya's face.
Mikiya
blinked his eyes open slowly, his vision still foggy from sleep. A few more
blinks cleared his vision, and there, in front of his face, sat someone staring
at him.
“Ah!”
Mikiya shot himself back, falling off the other side of his queen sized bed.
His small and petite head popped back up, his bedhead towering above his head.
The male on his bed propped his head up in his hand, grinning down at Mikiya
slyly. Mikiya grabbed his pillow, hurling it at the other’s face. “Mizuki! What are you doing?” Mikiya's young,
mature voice bellowed through his room angrily, he was definitely awake now.
Not quick
enough to dodge the projectile, Mizuki was hit, dead square in the face.
Grabbing it and covering his own face, muffling his now hysteric laughter at
Mikiya's reaction, Mizuki peeked around the edge of the pillow. He shifted the
pillow under his head, leaning on it as he supported it with his arm.
“Miki!
Rise and shine!” He held his arm on his hip, lying on his side. Not wanting to
get too comfortable in Mikiya's bed, he threw himself up, sitting cross-legged
in the middle of his bed. “This is what you get for leaving me yesterday.” He
folded his arms across his chest and looked down at his older brother.
“I have
some good news Miki chan.” He grabbed the pillow and placed it on his lap.
Mikiya
glared for a moment before climbing back up onto his bed. He sat on the edge,
facing sideways so he could still see every move that Mizuki made. He thought a
moment, trying to register things in his foggy brain.
“Oh, wait.
Let me guess.” Placing his forefingers on his temples, he thought for a smart
comeback. “You are moving out?” He made himself chuckle a little at that.
Mizuki
dropped his chin to his chest, pouting cutely.
“No!” he
reached out and slapped his foster brother’s shoulder. “Its about my brother.
The only one I have that lives with my kaa chan?” He raised his head, looking
up at his foster brother, hoping he would remember.
“You know,
Kazuki?” His brows furrowed slightly.
His thin
lips were pulled between his teeth, a small slithering click passed over his
tongue as he let his lips go. Folding his hands neatly over his crossed legs.
“Yeah,
yeah. What about him?” He obviously remembered his brother. Mikiya had only met
him a few times, but those were mandatory meetings between families to see what
the problems were in the households. Other then those times, Mikiya had never
had a conversation with Kazuki.
Mizuki
shook his head, blinking quickly.
“Oh!” he
stiffened up. “Well he has a friend that is living with him that apparently
knows who is doing all of these murders over the city.” And so the rumour started.
Mikiya
looked up quickly, his narrow eyes widened slightly. He turned on his bed and
faced Mizuki, clasping his hands together happily, yet in his eyes, there was a
slight fear as well.
“Who is
he? This friend of your brother’s?” Mikiya needed to know now. He always had so
much on his plate, but when it came to curiosity, he always cleaned his plate
to fill it with curiosity. First it was a CD recording, and they had a PV
shooting, as well as Jacket shooting, and now he was adding detective into his
busy schedule. “Wouldn't it be great if I caught those criminals Mizuki?” a
gleam of hope twinkled in his eye when he looked up to Mizuki again. Mikiya was such a child when it came to
wanting to be a detective; it was something he wanted to be when he was older
when he was asked the question in school.
Mizuki
grit his teeth, maybe telling Mikiya first was not such a good idea. He should
have listened to Maika when he first came to stay over, talk to him about
everything before he would go out and talk to Mikiya.
“Don't go
overboard Aniki.” Mizuki tried talking him down out of wanting to catch the
criminals. “He could be anywhere now.” He sat up and crawled off Mikiya's soft
bed backwards. He stared at Mikiya who still held a gleam in his eye. His lips
parted slightly to say something, but he remained silent and darted out of his
room.
Coming
from a busy rehearsal the night before, the group had a day off to relax, and
that is exactly what Maika was doing. Out in the backyard, lying on a patio
chair, Maika was half naked, exposing his skin to the high noon sun. He already
had a healthy glow to him, but adding to it had no harm. Next to him on a small
glass table was a cool glass of raspberry flavoured iced tea with a curved
green straw in it, topped off with a lemon wedge.
Mizuki had
forgotten Mikiya's frightful face from earlier that morning and left off to the
spare bedroom, at which this time was his bedroom. Walking into the kitchen, he
saw Maika from the window that was over the sink. He darted out of the glass
double doors to speak with him.
“Maika.”
Mizuki pouted as he flailed towards the chair Maika was sitting in. “I made a
mistake.” His pouting voice continued. He really should have listened to Maika.
Parting
his wide, bright eyes slowly, Maika blinked upwards to see Mizuki, but he only
saw a blinding white light. Deciding to keep his eyes closed, he turned towards
Mizuki.
“What did
you do now Mizuki?” Though it was a serious question, his tone was still
somehow comedic. “Did you feed Mii chan when she was not supposed to be fed?”
that alone would be a simple mistake, but it would be something that could set
off one of Mikiya's monologues again.
He shook
his head quickly, standing in front of the blinding sun to block it from
Maika's eyes.
“No,
nothing like that.” On that note he thought a moment. “I don't even feed her.”
If Maika was looking to distract him, he succeeded. He shook his head again,
his thick, black hair flying from side to side, he had to regain his focus.
“No I told
Miki nii that my brother’s friend knows who has been doing all of these
murders.” Finishing his news, he was shocked by Maika's reaction.
Hopping up
off the patio chair quickly, grabbing Mizuki's shoulder stiffly, pushing him
backwards.
“No, no,
no.” He shook him like a ragdoll “He's going to go all Sherlock on us now!” He
whined and pouted in his comedic manner, somehow making Mizuki chuckle
slightly. Maika was trying to be serious
but this young boy did not understand that he was trying to be serious. Maika
gripped his head and shook it over and over; suddenly stopping, he hopped back
and pointed enthusiastically at Mizuki.
“Boy this
isn’t funny!” He heard a noise in the kitchen, his entire focus shot in that
direction, as he hopped into a defensive position. “Oh no!” He gasped, hoping
it wasn't Mikiya.
Last time
Mikiya went detective on him, he was awake all night, every night, on the
internet looking for ways to see if there was a way to tell if someone was
lying to him or not. He even searched for sites where he could order equipment
from to catch criminals. This was all over in about a month, and it was Rin’s
fault for saying someone had stolen his last puff pastry and he wanted to know
who it was.
Mikiya had
dragged Maika into by having him interrogate everyone of the friends that was
there that night and in the end, Rin himself had solved the mystery. He had
forgotten that he had eaten it with breakfast the following day. Mikiya swore
to himself that day, with the next mystery, he would be the one to solve it.
Mizuki's
shoulders rise defensively, his head lowering like a turtle into its shell.
“Sorry, I
just had to tell someone.” His voice was shaking slightly. “And I couldn't find
you.”
Maika
dropped his hands and hit himself in the chest, motioning he was right there.
“You could
have told me!” His loud comedic voice was at a higher register. “I don't want
to go through this again.” He whined now, not wanting to deal with Mikiya
curious side again.
