Bokutachi wa Akuma: Chapter Twenty-Nine

Almost midnight. Having snacked on a few rice cakes and bottles of water, the three of them had been waiting for Daichi to regain consciousness again. He had been sleeping peacefully on the floor, Aiya had gotten the poor boy a throw blanket and a small pillow. He had curled up into the fetal position, his hands gently cradling his cheek, his thumb almost in his mouth like a baby. Ryota lay on the couch, his head over the edge, looking down at Daichi for any change of him waking up. His eyes were getting heavy, he was still young, but he was not a typical teenager who would stay up late partying; he would get tired when the clock restarted itself, every night.

Now past midnight, Aiya and Maruki had started getting the feeling of their bodies relaxing, submitting to the need of rest. The two of them had been resting on the opposite couch; Maruki leaned against the side of the couch, Aiya rest his head on his shoulder, using it as a pillow. A soft groan came from the floor, soft rustling of moving fabric followed. Sitting up like a vampire rising from a coffin, coincidentally, Daichi had finally regained consciousness.

“Daichi!” they all shouted at the same time, shooting up from their relaxed positions.
Rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly, Daichi looked up to his three friends, confused.
“What is it?” he had not remembered anything, which was very expected. “Are you okei guys?” he looked around, confused as to why they were all surprised at him.

It was an awkward silence between all of them, the three of them relaxed from their stiffened positions, looking at each other awkwardly.
Ryota dove down to the floor, he had been fully awake now from the rush of adrenaline. He gripped to Daichi, pulling him into a tight hug.
“I am so happy you are awake Dai chan.” He nuzzled into the crook of Daichi's neck, ready to cry.

Daichi froze, not knowing how to react. To his knowledge, he had just fallen victim to a nap and just woke up.
“Ryo chan.” He returned the hug, not sure why Ryota was not letting go. “Are we still at Maa chan's?” same thing happened to him as it did Maruki, he did not remember what had happened before he woke up in his new life.

Now the question was at hand, would they be telling Daichi as to what happened and let both him and Ryota deal with it on their own; or remain silent about it and let Ryota live in fear that Daichi might attack him at some point in time, and have him not even know why. They all looked to Daichi at the same time,
“How are you feeling Dai chan?” Ryota asked softly, pulling out of his vice grip hug, looking at him softly. “Are you okei?” Daichi looked at him confused, obviously he didn't know what he was talking about.

Daichi scanned over Ryota's face, seeing the worry and terror in his eyes. He looked over his shoulder at Maruki and Aiya, hoping he wouldn't see the same look.
“I'm okei.” He murmured. “I'm a little tired though.” He was silent for a moment before his entire body trembled. Over looking his body, he was covered in goose bump and all his little hairs were standing on end.

His lips parted slightly, Maruki reached down and pulled the blanket over his shoulder to keep him warm. Patting his shoulder,, ensuring that the blanket would stay on, Maruki touched him again, slipping a hand under his collar to feel his skin.
“Daichi, you're freezing. Do you want another blanket?” Maruki could not remember ever being that cold the day after, perhaps everyone was different, or maybe he did it wrong, he did it over a phone call with Ruka after all.
THE PHONE!
Maruki stiffened up like a board again, frantically looking for Ryota's phone again. He had forgotten all about getting Daichi another blanket, there were more important matters now.
“Ah!” He pointed to the phone hysterically when he found it, as if it were a game. He then dove for it quickly, placing it against his ear. “Hello?” Silence, it was dead.
“NO!” he strangled the phone, screaming at its uselessness.

Sweat drop. Aiya and Ryota stared at him, worried that he lost his mind.
“Ano, Maa chan.” Aiya reached out for him, trying to catch his attention, failing. “Maa chan! What are you doing?” Maruki gaze shot up from the small device in his small hands to Aiya, who sat on the couch still; his glassy, almond shaped eyes looked psychotic.
“Eh?” Aiya cocked his head back, never seeing Maruki this frantic before.

“Mizuki!” He screamed, leaning into his words.

“Ah!” both Aiya and Ryota screamed, pointing to the small device in Maruki's hand hysterically.

Daichi looked from on to the other of each of them.
“What about him?”

Maruki leaned down, pulling the blanket over Daichi's head and ran away, shouting over his shoulder.
“Doesn't concern you little boy!” He ran down the hall, his phone was in his room somewhere and he needed to find it to call Mizuki back.
Aiya and Ryota followed him down the hall into his clean, neat room, which was currently being demolished by the tornado, Maruki. He called Mizuki, who called Kazuki, who gave the phone to Ruka. Mizuki was on the phone the entire time, listening in.

The two of them surrounded Maruki as he searched for Mizuki's name in his contact list. Once he found it, he clicked it and put the phone on speaker. The youngest member of the group answered the phone, yet remained silent.
Ano, Mizuki kun?” Maruki was hesitant in speaking, from his silence he could only assume that he had overheard everything. “C-can we talk?

heavy breathing started, Mizuki was getting aggravated.
NO! We cannot talk!” He shouted in the phone, angry that one of his admired friends had just killed his other admired friend. “When Mikiya and Maika get home, I'm going to tell them what you did!” He hung up the phone and threw it across his room.

Maruki, Aiya and Ryota stared at the black screen, shocked. Their jaws dropped open in surprise.
“I think he's mad.” Ryota looked up to Maruki, waiting to see what he was going to do about Mizuki. He had just been thrown into a world that he never knew existed, surrounded by power no one he knew could ever possess. Looking over his shoulder, out the door, he thought of the power Daichi could have, it somehow made him attracted to him, knowing he was a male and a friend.
