Bokutachi wa Akuma: Chapter Twenty-One

Yo, Shiro! He shouted across the field to his taller friend who seemed very distant even before they had started playing. He never got a response from his friend. He kicked the ball hard, but with great precision and aim. “Shiro!” he shouted again, glaring off at Shiroyuki.

The ball had swept tight passed his ear, the gust of wind still in his hair.
“Hey!” The longer haired, relatively beautiful man shot a glare in the other man’s direction. Even across the distance of the field, he could see it clearly. “Watch where you are kicking that Kanon!” Shiroyuki stomped his foot and held it down; he looked as if he were getting ready to charge at Kanon like a bull.

Kanon clenched his teeth together, narrowing his eyes at his friend off in the distance. He held out his hands defensively, pushing the air in front of him away, almost panicking to keep Shiroyuki away.
“Shiro… don't.” He narrowed his eyes at him further, hoping he wouldn't charge at him. This was a soccer game, not football. “I'm warning you.” He held out a risen finger, preparing himself, seeing that Shiroyuki was not listening to him.

He kicked the dirt back under his feet a few times and snarled, staring at Kanon evilly. Pushing himself off, Shiroyuki charged at Kanon like the bull he looked like with full force. Kanon prepared himself, but not enough for what Shiroyuki had to deliver. Shiroyuki slammed into Kanon, plowing him into the ground. Though the wind was knocked out of him, they both started laughing simultaneously.

Kanon and Shiroyuki had been long time friends; they knew almost everything about each other. Kanon was much shorter than Shiroyuki for the most part of their friendship, but it did not bother him, he preferred being shorter. In a nation like this, being taller was not always a good thing, towering over pedestrians as you’d walk by them, one would most likely get stares. In Kanon’s case, he believed that he was destined to be short because of the jinx that Shiroyuki had put on him when they were younger.

Kanon and Shiroyuki were not famous at all like the men they had yet to meet, but they were famous in a more community manner. Down at the park there was a large building built for roller-skating, they went to the building more than five days a week. Having been going for almost three years, they had gotten to know many of the other regulars; over that time, they had began getting very good at roller-skating. After long days rolling around the rink in a circle, the two of them had gotten bored and began adding in techniques such as skating backwards. Most people were there to have fun or get some daily exercise; they went there to entertain others by having their own fun. After finding out that roller-skating was fun, they had started incorporation dances into their newly found techniques, making them famous with the locals and seniors for having incorporating dance into roller-skating.

Unknowingly that would be the start to a new fandom that would soon arise, getting them from a small roller derby and going city and possibly nationwide. There had never been anything like that before and if the right people were around to see it, if could mean a new breakthrough for the two friends. For now on the other hand, it was purely for the fun of entertaining the regular fans of their community.

Kanon and Shiroyuki pulled themselves from the ground looking around at the field as they did; the daily soccer team was just arriving for their evening practice. Picking up the soccer ball, they slowly headed off home and made their way around the field. It was getting late and they still had not gone to the roller derby yet, the seniors would be waiting for them to watch their free performance. Not only was it fun for Kanon and Shiroyuki to go, but they had also gained exercise from it to perhaps be able to join that soccer team one day.
“Do you think that people like what we do there?” Shiroyuki looked down at Kanon, questioning the fun that they would have at the roller derby. “Or do you think they just find it annoying and pretend to like it?” Brushing his bangs out of his eyes, Shiroyuki looked ahead again, the setting sun bright in his golden eyes.

Kanon chewed on his cheek in thought, a bad and common habit he had when he thought.
“Hard to say. But you know Shiro.” He paused, a serious look washing over his round face as he stopped in mid step. “As long as we have fun doing it, what should it matter?” His serious expression seemed to promise more of an in depth opinion. Yet he seemed to spurt out the obvious.

Hitting his shoulder playfully, Shiroyuki chuckled lightly, having known the moral already.
“Thank you Mr. Obvious.” He chuckled and walked ahead of Kanon. “Let’s go. We’re gonna be late.”
